After a run in the London West End it transferred to Broadway where it ran for 173 performances. It was filmed in 1930, featuring Gerald du Maurier, Madeleine Carroll, Ian Hunter and Nigel Bruce (in a bit part). A 1948 version, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz starred Rex Harrison, Peggy Cummins, and William Hartnell (now famous as the original Doctor Who). Galsworthy won the Nobel Prize in 1932. He is probably best known now as the author of The Forsyte Saga.
