Listen / Download Absolutely Free wWw.OrsOnRaDio.com The Green Goddess was a 1930 American pre-Code film directed by Alfred E. Green. It was a remake of a 1923 silent film, which was in turn based on a play of the same name by William Archer. In the three years after its publication, the play toured in both America and England. It was included in Burns Mantle's The Best Plays of 1920-1921. The Green Goddess was adapted for Lux Radio Theater in 1935, starring Claude Rains. Welles' Campbell Playhouse radio adaptation aired in February 1939 and was followed by his Mercury Theatre version in New York - preceded by a short Welles-directed film prelude, now believed lost. In July and August 1939, the Mercury Theatre signed with RKO Pictures and toured a shortened version of the Archer play on the RKO Vaudeville Theatre circuit, performed as often as four times a day. The Mercury Theatre moved to Hollywood late in 1939, after Welles signed a film contract with RKO that eventually resulted in his debut feature film, Citizen Kane, in 1941. (wiki)
