Wickford Point - May 5, 1939 - 00:58:26 - 26.7 MB On May 5, 1939, Orson Welles and The Campbell Playhouse present Wickford Point by John P. Marquand. Cast: Orson Welles (Jim Calder), Agnes Moorehead, Ray Collins, Everett Sloane, Paul Stewart, Carl Frank. Music by Bernard Herrmann. An interview with author John P. Marquand follows the play. Marquand first became known for his series of Mr. Moto spy novels, published between 1935-1957. Two more were published after his death. The Moto stories were the basis of a series of movies starring Peter Lorre, elegantly miscast as Moto. Marquand wrote The Late George Apley in 1937, a satire of Boston's upper class, and it won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938. He continued this theme with Wickford Point in 1939 and and H.M. Pulham, Esquire (1941). Wickford Point, the novel, is available online from Project Gutenberg: http://gutenberg.ca/ebooks/marquandjp-wickfordpoint/marquandjp-wickfordpoint-00-h.html
